The church stands on the site of the smalì chapel dedicated io the Trinity and la Si. Carlo Barramao. Il wasbuiltin 1611 bytheSpanish barefoatTrinitari fathers. On the altar af the chapel, there was an altarpiece by Orazio Bargianni, friend af Caravaggio, il is now in the sacristy. With the passing af time, the importance of the order grew sa much that, in very few year, the fathers acquired surrounding Iand far the purpases of enlarging the haly building. The praject was given io Barromini who buili the convenì in twa years (1634—6), which was later enlarged during the caurse of the 8th century.The works far the church began some years later and it was consecrated only in 1646, despite the lack of a fa~ade.Thefa~adewas begun in 1664, buI three years later, when the architecì died, il stili hadn’t been completed.

ociaganal, hexagonal and cross-shaped. In the centre is the symbol of the Trinity, the emblem of the order.The smalì claister is gained from the
conveni, il is parallel io the main axis af the church —af squashed oval shape and wilh twa orders of galleries. |
