Naples was founded in 600 BC by the Greeks and the
Romans took over in 320 BC. Naples is rich in history with buildings, churches and monuments
dating back centuries. Only just over an hour from Sorrento, it makes
an interesting day out. During the tour you will be able to visit the National Museum which is one of the
best archeological museums in the world. Most of the treasures from Pompeii
and Herculaneum have been transferred to this museum for safe keeping. There is
also a priceless collection of paintings and bronze works. After visiting the
museum, you will also be guided around the city which as you will see
is a hive of activity! You will see the Royal Palace, the Piazza Plebiscito, the Piazza Municipio with its
huge medieval castle the "Maschio Angioino" and the San Carlo Opera
House. In the afternoon, you will drive to the area near Pozzuoli to
visit the Solfatara. This is a sort of flat volcano where you can see hot steam and
walk on hot ground. Ancient people thought the volcano was the entrance
to the underworld
