Tour 2a
DISCOVERING
FLORENCE WALK
departure every day at
9.45 a.m. with terminal at
Piazza Santa Maria Novella at the entrance of the church

|
The city
discovery itinerary starts from the lively Piazza Santa Maria
Novella with the splendid Dominican church of the same name. We
then proceed through the characteristic little square of the Croce
al Trebbio and along the elegant Via Tornabuoni to reach Palazzo
Strozzi. A little further on we come to Palazzo Davanzati and
the fourteenth-century Palagio di Parte Guelfa by Brunelleschi. |
Shortly
afterwards we reach the Ponte Vecchio, the "Jewellers'
Bridge", one of the symbols of Florence; we then pass through the
Piazzale degli Uffizi to enter Piazza della Signoria, a
spendid "open-air sculpture museum". Overlooking the square
is the famous and imposing Palazzo Vecchio, and the tour
continues with a visit to the interior. After
the Church of Orsanmichele, the itinerary ends in Piazza
Santa Maria del Fiore, the religious heart of the city, with the Cathedral
and Brunelleschi's Cupola, the Baptistry of San Giovanni and
Giotto's Campanile.
