In ancient times, the piazza del Campidoglio
was the sacred place of Rome.
Today, it is the seat of the Town Council of Rome.
Below
the Palatine is the valley of the Roman Forum.
From here, you get to the Colosseum, the amphitheater built on
Nero’s lake in the first century A. D.
It is the symbol of the city once used for gladiatorial games which were watched by the entire
population as they were free.

From
the Colosseum starts via dei Fori Imperiali, the
straight stretch opened by Mussolini to connect the amphitheater to
Piazza Venezia. Here are the Imperial Forums, built by the first
Emperors who believed that the forum area had become too small to
celebrate their person.

On Piazza Venezia square is the
magnificent monument to Victor Emmanuel II, first king of ltaly,
and that to the Un-known Soldier. |
