During the Val d'Orcia tour visit Pienza with
the Pecorino cheese, the Monte Oliveto Abbey and Montepulciano
with the Vino Nobile. This day south of Siena begins with a
visit of the Monte Oliveto Maggiore Abbey (1313) with frescoes
by Luca Signorelli. Then onto Pienza, the city commissioned by
Pope Pius II and designed by Rossellino in the mid-15th century.
Walk around this perfect Renaissance urban plan town, including
the Cathedral with its numerous Gothic and early Renaissance
altarpieces. (Zeffirelli used Pienza as his stage set for the
film "Romeo and Juliet". The next stop will be to a
castle where local wines, bruschetta and pecorino cheese will be
offered together with other local delicacies. You will then be
driven to Montepulciano, perched atop a hill at over 600 meters
altitude for a walk around this Renaissance village that is also
famous for its Noble wine. A visit to the renowned Caffe
Poliziano is also included.
