During the Brunello tour visit the Abbey of
Sant'Antimo, Brunello wineries and Montalcino. This day of
unique wine tasting and splendid food begins at the
Benedictine Abbey of St. Antimo, founded by Charlemagne in 781
A.D. The acoustics of the Romanesque church are ideal for
listening to Gregorian Chants by the Augustinian monks who
live in the abbey. Their CD is a wonderful souvenir. Villa
Banfi, an important producer of Brunello, one of Italy's
premier red wines, is the next stop on this itinerary. It is
followed by a stop at another castle within the Brunello
appellation where lunch (at own expense) will be served
together with a wine tasting of several Brunello vintages. The
final stop will be in the town of Montalcino where special
attention will be devoted to the medieval garrison as well as
the numerous wine stores, where you may wish to purchase this
prestigious wine.
